Description
Like this, it's a tree.
Turn it sideways, it's a branch.
Turn it upside-down, it's a root.

Hello! I come from ProjectComment with revenge a critique. Anyway, my word was "black", and this piece strike me most with the key word.
It's very interesting of what you thought of- tree, branch, root. I like how you didn't colour the tree completely black, it seems to give some kind of texture or lighting/shading. Thin branches/leaves/roots are nicely spread out. It's quite like calligraphy to my eyes (except I only know bamboo calligraphy haha) and that maybe it would be cooler if you brushed in some Chinese/Japanese words like...
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. But the second best time is today."
Haha. I'm not sure about Chinese tree proverbs, but that's one.
Anyway, back to the point, I think that the tree would have looked better if there were less "flying" branches, like, unattached to the trunk/branch/whatever. Also, I think using equal line/brush-sizes on the image makes the branches/roots look less interesting in variety and angle.
However, I like this picture and can't seem to find more to say. It's a truly interesting picture, but maybe you should scan it so the colours would be brighter?
Tag! Go ahead and find an image that suits the word "vintage" in professorwagstaff's gallery.
Have a great day!
